Television Feasts

I am a home cook who backyard gardens and has a serious closet addiction to the Food Network. I envision visiting the world in my own kitchen.

From Julia to Giada, I am a bi-product of the quirky world of anything food television. At age 10 I wanted to lunch with Julia; at 12 I thought sitting at Graham Kerr's table would be bliss; in college I was a diligent voyeur student of Jeff Smith's; and as a newlywed I envisioned myself being Martha. Then the sky opened up and violin music played in the background when I discovered an entire family of food shows on the blossoming food network. Twenty years later I am still a home chef with a backyard garden, yet in my head I am a trained chef who has eaten her way around the world, tasted all things exotic, competed in many challenges, judged the best of the best, and have a circle of friends which includes Emeril, Bobby, Rachael and more. I like to learn and challenge myself simply for the pleasure of all things food. I am a student of the University of Food Network and my textbooks, exams and extra-curricular activities all stem from channel 39.

Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops

Well, it was a Murphy's Law kind of day.  It is day 189 of the year 2014.  Keep in mind I have successfully created 188 (actually more, I counted) recipes to meet my challenge of a different recipe every day for a year.  Tonight I am not even going to give you anymore than the name of what I intended to make; hmm, no I will give you a few pictures so I can prove I tried.  I am going to tell you today's cooking event was a bust.  Yup.  I can't sugar coat it.  I am sure that the recipe Giada De Laurentiis intended this to be is a crunchy, yummy dish; however, half way through, my oven broke. Actually it fell apart.  The glass door simply fell out.  I don't even want to talk about it.......I did not waste the food, though.  I steamed, sort of, well kinda fried, maybe you would call it heated through, the meat until it came to temperature.  Yuck, tough, though cooked, flavor, uh, it was hidden there somewhere in the dish.  I will sleep tonight dreaming about an amazing, restaurant quality range....while I am dreaming, I see a new fridge being delivered by the kitchen fairies~~~~I am thinking microwave or crock pot for few days :(

Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops
NOT a printable recipe, so I can put it behind me!

1 large egg
1/2 c. Italian style dried bread crumbs
1/2 c. grated Parmesan
2  thick cut bone-in pork chops
salt and pepper
3 T. vegetable oil
Lemon wedges, for serving

Season chops with salt and pepper.
In a pie plate whisk the egg until frothy.
Dredge the chops in the cheese.
Dip in egg.
Dredge in bread crumbs.

Heat the oil in a large oven proof skillet.  Brown the chops on both sides to form a crust.  Place in the oven for 20 minutes to cook through.

Ok done.  See you on day 190!  Maybe I will microwave, cook something on the stove top or bring out the crockpot :(
